Big Medium 2.0b29 "White Night"

Posted Oct 9, 2006

The "White Night" beta update fixes bugs that could cause the v1 import utility to stop running and adds some performance improvements to make page building faster.

You'll find instructions and troubleshooting tips for the importer in the installation guide that comes with the download. Or, just give the importer a whirl by choosing "Settings>Import Legacy Sites" in the control panel. If you find any bugs or quirks in the importer, give me a shout in the discussion forum.

Download the latest version of Big Medium here.

Upgrading from 2.0b27 or 2.0b28?

If you're upgrading from v2.0b27 or v2.0b28, you can update to the new version by uploading only the following three files/directories, which you should upload in "plain text" (or "ASCII") mode:

  • bmadmin/js/bigmedium_cp.js
  • moxiebin/Modules/BigMed.pm
  • moxiebin/Modules/BigMed (directory and all contents)

After uploading the files, browse to the bm-update.cgi file in your site's moxiebin directory. For example:

http://www.example.com/cgi-bin/moxiebin/bm-update.cgi

Upgrading from previous versions

For all other versions, please follow the update installation instructions in the installation guide that comes with the Big Medium download.

The Nitty Gritty

Here's what's new in Big Medium 2.0b29:

  • Performance improvements for page building.

  • Added more status updates in progress bar during the importer's page-building process.

  • Fixed bugs that caused importer to stop when it encountered:

    • Poorly-formed image files
    • Certain patterns in author names
    • Duplicate document titles for download pages
  • Made progress bar more forgiving of network issues.

  • Made the importer's lockfile handling more robust for long-running imports.
