This bug-fix update is the fifth release candidate for Big Medium 2 (we’re getting close!).
The “Rhinoceros” update is a bug-fix update and the fifth release candidate for Big Medium 2 (we’re getting close!).
As noted in previous release announcements, Big Medium now requires Perl 5.6.1 or higher; if you’ve been running Big Medium on a server with Perl 5.6.0 or earlier, you’ll need to upgrade your Perl installation in order to continue. Not sure what version you have? Download the compatibility checker from the system requirements page.
Download the latest version of Big Medium here.
The download package includes complete installation instructions, including notes for upgrading from previous versions of the Big Medium 2 beta.
Shortcut instructions for upgrading from 2.0rc1, rc2, rc3 or rc4 are provided below. (If you’re upgrading from 2.0b52 or earlier, please follow the full installation instructions in the download package; along the way, those instructions include special notes for upgrading.)
Here’s what’s new in this update:
Changed default font in the Newsprint theme to Arial instead of Helvetica due to Arial’s superior handling of accents and non-western characters on Windows.
Clicking news-gadget images now opens a new window when the new-window option is selected (previously did this only for the link text).
Search-result links now try harder to display some form of description text even if the page has no primary text content.
Link widgets now display document icons next to links for document downloads, audio/video media and podcast media (this was previously done only within content pages, now extended to link widgets).
Added Real Audio filetypes .ram and .rm as acceptable upload types.
A basic stylesheet is now generated for all new sites, allowing sites to display the image lightbox and other effects correctly even if they never have a theme applied to them.
Fixed bug that prevented deleted pages from being properly removed from the search index, causing the overall number of search results to be displayed incorrectly, along with odd paging of results (e.g., “displaying 1-3 of 39 results”).
Fixed dropdown-menu bug in IE7 that caused text adjacent to vertical dropdown navigation to be unclickable.
Fixed bug that could cause the legacy-site importer to crash when importing announcements that include accents and non-western characters.
Fixed issue under some ImageMagick installations that generated thumbnail images with permissions such that the web server could not display them.
Adjusted the Cup o’ Joe theme to:
Fixed style issue that caused the invisible “skip navigation” link in the
<%navigation%> widget to be less than invisible on some site layouts.
Fixed bug that could cause accents and non-western characters in some Markdown text to be displayed incorrectly on servers running Perl 5.8.0.
Fixed bug that prevented the modification date of library documents from updating after replacing the document file, when the filename of the new file is the same as the original.
If you’re upgrading from v2.0rc1 or v2.0rc2, v2.0rc3 or v2.0rc4, you can update to the new version by following the instructions below.
