Big Medium 2.0.1

Posted Apr 1, 2008

Big Medium 2.0.1 is now ready for your enjoyment and delectation, offering a bevy of bug fixes for your favorite content management system. The update addresses control-panel compatibility problems with Firefox 3 and Safari 3.1, funky navigation issues in Internet Explorer 7, and several other issues.

Go get it

Download the latest version of Big Medium here.

The download package includes complete installation instructions, including notes for upgrading from previous versions of Big Medium.

Shortcut instructions for upgrading from 2.0 are provided below. (If you’re upgrading from a version prior to 2.0, please follow the full installation instructions in the download package; along the way, those instructions include special notes for upgrading.)

The nitty gritty

Here’s what’s new in this update:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented content edit fields from appearing in Firefox 3 and Safari 3.1.

  • Fixed a bug that made it impossible to delete sections from the “section structure” page in Firefox 3 and Safari 3.1.

  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused navigation bars to prevent nearby text from being clicked or selected in Internet Explorer 7; the same bug also occasionally caused the horizontal scroll bar to appear in Internet Explorer.

  • Link images now correctly open a new window for external links when the new-window preference is selected in the site’s HTML preferences.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented site search from returning any results if the path_info plugin was installed.

  • After deleting items from the image, document, media or people libraries, any pages that contained those items are now rebuilt automatically.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented some site preferences from being copied when cloning a site.

  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused a page’s list of version edits to appear in non-chronological order on the edit screen.

  • Fixed a bug that allowed sections to be displayed in <%sections%> widget even when the “suppress content in parent sections” option is checked.

  • The <%images%> widget now properly returns nothing at all if no images to display (previously returned an empty div).

  • When displaying a library image in the control panel, a link to the original image size is now always displayed; this was inconsistent in previous versions.

  • Fixed a crashing bug when displaying search results on servers running Perl 5.8.0.

  • Fixed a crashing bug that occurred when you tried to copy a website to the server’s root directory from the “Site URLs & Directories” page.

  • Fixed a crashing bug for servers that do not have Perl’s URI module installed.

  • When deleting custom display preferences in the section properties screen, the confirmation dialog now reminds you to rebuild pages.

Upgrading from Big Medium 2.0?

If you’re upgrading from v2.0, you can update to the new version by following the instructions below. (If you’re upgrading from a version prior to 2.0, please follow the full installation instructions in the download package; along the way, those instructions include special notes for upgrading.)

To upgrade from v2.0:

1. Set your FTP client to “plain text” or “ascii” mode.

2. Upload to moxiebin/Modules directory:

  • BigMed (directory and all contents)
  • BigMed.pm
  • HTML (directory and all contents)
  • URI (directory and all contents)
  • `URI.pm

3. Upload to moxiedata/support/assets directory:

  • bm-ie.js

4. Upload to moxiedata/templates/cp_templates directory:

  • wi_prompt_slider.tmpl

5. Upload to moxiedata/templates/site_templates directory:

  • base.css

6. Upload to moxiedata/templates/site_templates/HTML directory:

  • wi_links_generic.tmpl
  • wi_search.tmpl

7. Update the bmadmin/index.html file with your site’s moxiebin URL.

Open bmadmin/index.html in a text editor and follow the instructions in the file to update the two marked URLs with the full URL to your server’s moxiebin directory.

8. Upload to bmadmin directory:

  • index.html
  • js (directory and all contents)

9. Run the updater

Browse to the bm-update.cgi file in your site’s moxiebin directory. For example:

http://www.example.com/cgi-bin/moxiebin/bm-update.cgi

10. Clear your browser cache, and ask other Big Medium editors to do the same.

This completes the update from v2.0.
