How do I set permissions on a Windows server?

Instructions for setting the necessary permissions on Big Medium's directories.

Question

How do I set permissions on a Windows server?

Answer

If you're using a hosted web account on a Windows server, permissions are likely set correctly for you already. No need to do anything until Big Medium complains about permissions. But if you do run into a permission error...

Big Medium requires that the server's "Internet Guest Account" have all permission levels except "Full Control" for the moxiedata and moxiebin directories, in addition to any HTML directory where you would like Big Medium to manage your files.

Your hosting company may have provided a web-based control panel to edit permissions for individual directories; check with your hosting company's tech support for details.

Otherwise, a server administrator must make the directory changes for you, following these instructions for each of the moxiedata, moxiebin and HTML directories:

  1. Right-click on the directory and choose "properties."
  2. Click the security tab.
  3. Select the Internet Guest Account, and click the Advanced button.
  4. Select all checkboxes except "Full Control" in the Allow column.
  5. Click OK and, if presented with a confirmation message, click "Yes" to continue.
