Water Rising

Posted Mar 7, 2007

You can count on the Seine to run high in springtime. Around late March, the Paris riverbanks typically run over, and the riverside parkway is closed to traffic. This year, the high waters have arrived early, probably due to an unusually warm winter.

For the last few days, the river has been churning fast, overflowing the embankments and flooding the city's riverside promenades. The city's houseboats have joined pedestrians and cyclists on the walkways. Thought I'd share a few photos I took down the street from our apartment.

It's certainly nothing to compare to the flood that deluged Paris in 1910. The sloppy conditions are just a mark of the early arrival of spring in the city.
