Webcast Redux: Tapworthy App Design on Sept 14

Posted Sep 12, 2010 (updated Sep 15, 2010)

Update: The live webcast has come and gone, but you can still watch the recorded video or download the slides.

I was all atingle going into my O'Reilly webcast last week, where the plan was to get together with my very best internet friends for a free 60-minute talk to share some ideas from my book. Alas, as sometimes happen, technology intervened. Network weather patterns converged, bandwidth barometric pressure plummeted, and a digital squall ensued at the hosting company. Or something like that. Whatever happened, the audio quality took a nosedive, and all but a few hundred of the attendees could hear the talk. Frustrating for all involved.

But good news! We've rescheduled the webcast, this time with sparkly, crystal-clear audio. If you missed the webcast the first time around, then my tech headache is your windfall. Join me on Tuesday, September 14 for a lively jaunt through the dos and dont's of tapworthy iPhone app design.

Tapworthy apps cope with small screens and fleeting user attention to make every pixel count, every tap rewarding. Learn to: capture the elusive ingredients of irresistible mobile interfaces; craft comfortable ergonomics for fingers and thumbs; dodge the usability gotchas of handheld devices; and turn tiny-touchscreen constraints to your advantage. Along the way, you'll get behind-the-scenes glimpses into the design process of popular apps including Facebook, Twitterrific, USA Today, Things, and others.

It's a live broadcast at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern, but the video will also be posted later in the week (and I'll also post slides here). For the international audience, here's some help for the time-zone challenged:

  • London: Sept 14 at 5pm
  • Mumbai: Sept 14 at 10:30pm
  • Beijing: Sept 15 at 1am
  • Tokyo: Sept 15 at 2am
  • Sydney: Sept 15 at 3am

Hope I'll see you online on Tuesday! (I promise that you'll at least be able to hear me.) If you plan to attend, let Lanyrd know about it by posting this on Twitter:

(Psst, not familiar with Lanyrd? It's an awesome new service that lets you share and discover conferences and tech events. Highly recommended. Here are my events, for example.)
