On the Road

In an annual ritual, Paris emptied out this month as everyone decamped for their month-long vacations. Our butcher shop closed up for the entire month of August. So did our bakery, our produce shop, our favorite wine store. Tumbleweeds rolled through the streets. Ellen and I felt like the only suckers to stay behind as we kept slogging away at our keyboards.

The Parisians began to return this week, all aglow with health and sunshine after several weeks by the Mediterranean, in the Alps, in Provence, whatever. Me, all I’ve got is a pasty-white, glow-in-the-dark complexion from too much time in front of the screen. Time to fix that.

This afternoon, we’re flying to the US for a little time with friends and family in New York, Boston, Cape Hatteras and points between. We start in NYC where Ellen will defend her dissertation next week and pick up her Ph.D. (my wife has all the brains and beauty in this relationship). With that heavy lifting out of the way, a few casual weeks are planned. We’re coming back October 1.

I’ll be working on the road, but at a slower pace than usual. It may take a day or two longer than it normally would for me to respond to email and support requests. Hang in there, though, I’ll get back to you.

In particular, I’ll be quiet over the next several days as we snip the Internet connection for the Labor Day holiday weekend in the States. I’ll be back online on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

Update: I'm back from my trip and already hard at work on the finishing touches for the final Big Medium 2 release, hopefully later this month...

Funny, it's exactly what I saw in my arrondissement... You don't happen to live near rue de Bretagne, do you?

Funny coincidence, I used to live near rue de Bretagne, and that was my market street (yep, boarded up every August). Now I live in the St. Paul neighborhood, where the same thing happens to the rue St. Antoine markets.
