Psst... Pass It On! Spreading the Word about Big Medium

Since launching Big Medium 2.0, I’ve received several e-mails from folks wondering how they can help spread the word about Big Medium. First off: This is crazy flattering. It’s satisfying enough just to have people adopt your product, but it’s truly thrilling when customers want to share the experience with others.

As a one-man show bootstrapping a new product, I rely on word of mouth and the kind words of customers. If Big Medium succeeds as a commercial product, it will be because of you. Many thanks; your help is appreciated.

If you’re inclined to help spread the word, here are some ideas.

Share with your community

If you’ve enjoyed using Big Medium, if it’s made your online life easier, tell your friends and colleagues about it.

Send an e-mail to your web-designer friends and let them know that Big Medium is a CMS designed for them. Tell them that Big Medium offers an easy way to automate their original designs while enabling their clients to update the content.

Blog your story about Big Medium or about your service experience as a Big Medium customer.

Add your comments to blog posts about Big Medium, sharing your experience and feedback with bloggers and their readers.

Announce Big Medium in your favorite forum. If you belong to an online community of designers and web geeks, let ‘em know about it. Is someone asking about content management systems? Share your experience with Big Medium.

Bookmark the Big Medium page in del.icio.us, Magnolia, Reddit, Digg, or your favorite social bookmarking site.

Don’t be a zealot

If you’re posting in forums or on blogs, be considerate of the community around you. Offer comments that are appropriate to the context and that will genuinely help people understand if Big Medium is right for them. No software is perfect for every project, so feel free to share Big Medium’s pros and cons. Be yourself, be honest.

Rate Big Medium

There are a variety of sites that offer Amazon-like ratings and reviews of software. As shoppers, we all know how useful a set of fair-minded reviews can be in evaluating a product. Here are a few places where you can share your experience:

The “don’t be a zealot” rule applies here, too. These sites are only useful when reviews are fair and even-handed. If you choose to review Big Medium, write the type of review that you yourself would find useful if you were browsing for products for the first time.

Create Great Sites

More than anything else, just keep doing what you’re doing, using Big Medium to create remarkable places on the web. Your creativity is the best advertisement for what Big Medium can do.

If it fits with your design and business plan, consider adding a Big Medium logo to your page templates (you can do this by adding the <%bigmedium%> widget to your template).

Your suggestions are welcome

Got other ideas for helping to get the word out about Big Medium? Directories where Big Medium is not yet listed? I'm all ears. Shoot me a note at jclark@globalmoxie.com or leave a comment below.

And thanks again. I’m humbled by the enthusiasm and support of our small but growing community. You rock.

Big Medium rocks, but not as much as Josh Clark himself, who provides the absolutely most awesome support I have experienced in 25+ years of daily computer use.
